Designing for the future Date: 09/03/2009

I am a real Trekkie. I have just started watching Stargate SG-1. What a superb, exciting and well written series, a lot more sci-fi than some of the latter written Star Treks.

There are however some issues of design. The original Star Trek was based in the future and is still watchable today even if the special effects are dated. However, I fear Stargate SG-1 will not fare so well. Yes the effects are more modern and very good but, it is based in the present and this is where it will not age as gracefully as Star Trek.

Consideration must be given to the same issues in all design with regards longevity.
