Social Media B2B - Why do so many social media experts get it so wrong?
“Social” media is a complete paradox. Social media suggests media for the “people” and generally the people i.e. “society” want everything NOW and quickly. Yet those same “peoples” online social media only works if you take your time. Therefore I think experts and companies are often confused in their approach to social media because they want immediate and/or very quick results that show benefits on the balance sheet in a certain time limit. Social media is something that takes time.
This is why so many experts get it wrong. It may be that they are experts that are forced into promising non substantiated claims to service a market that does not understand the nature of the product being sold. For example if an expert company approached the market with a statement “we will fix your social media requirements within 3 years” they would not compete with a doppelganger company that approached the same market with the statement “we will fix your social media requirements within 6 months” as they would be out of business given the “want it now” nature of society. Hence I think some experts are forced by market factors to almost lie to survive even if they truly are experts in the field of “social” media.
The start of the Spencer Swinden design process is to assess the demographics of the market available to your venue and through the course of our involvement we will assess social media for a venue and set up Twitter and Facebook pages (if required by the client). We also offer training on how to use social media to engage your audience and attract customers to your venue. Interested? Contact Spencer Swinden.
