Water Free Urinals Date: 22/12/2009
Some Numbers: A single urinal with a half hourly flush cycle uses 125,000 litres of water per year.
Savings can be made with new designs of urinals that use less water and flush individually (details in a separate blog to follow).
There is however, a urinal that uses no water and is more hygienic than water flush urinals.
Are they hygienic? Yes.
Lime scale in normal tap water used to flush urinals is what causes the bacteria in the urinal to build up and breed. No lime scale means no bacteria as there is no breeding ground for it to form.
The no water urinal needs no plumbing and created a rest room with very clean lines. Savings of circa 125,000 litres of water per year equate to around 20% less water usage per site.
