The Kings Eating House causes a stir! Date: 29/05/2011
Found nestled in sleepy Stokenchurch , only a short journey from High Wycombe is The Kings Eating House . The Restaurant adjoins the historic Kings Hotel , a former coaching inn that takes its name (and notoriety) from the risqué visits of King Charles II with his mistress in 17th C.
Spencer Swinden Design were required to renovate this former hotel restaurant into a venue that appealed to locals as well as patrons, becoming a destination for miles around. The concept behind the scheme involved accentuating the historic detailing within the restaurant and combining this with a mixture of elegance and eccentric charm that captivates its audience and makes them come back for more.
The restaurant is now welcoming and warm. It boasts a palette of luxurious finishes, sumptuous upholstery and beautiful detailing and accessories that hark back to the heritage of the hotel and the village. The wallpaper echoes of Stokenchurch’s history of lace making with its intricate pattern based on an authentic lace design, whilst the furniture is reclaimed and triumphs the type of handcrafted furniture that the region was once famous for producing.
The revamp has revitalised the restaurant, increasing footfall dramatically since it opened in February. The menu showcases a range of great British dishes and combined with the restaurants’ quirky new look and vibrant atmosphere, The Kings Eating House is really starting to cause a stir !
